According to preliminary estimations, in March 2020 Russia exported 3.78 mln tonnes of grains, which significantly exceeded the figures of the same month last year (2.6 mln tonnes), declared the Head of the analytical center at Rusagrotrans JSC, Igor Pavensky, on April 2.
In particular, wheat shipments increased by almost 1 mln tonnes — to 2.99 mln tonnes, as opposed to 2 mln tonnes in March 2019. In addition, due to the increased demand from Vietnam and South Korea, corn exports almost doubled — from 285 thsd tonnes, to 560 thsd tonnes. At the same time, in March 2020 the shipments of barley slightly decreased — to 212 thsd tonnes, as opposed to 254 thsd tonnes in March 2019, the analyst explained.
Also, I.Pavensky reported that for 9 months of the current season (July-March), Russia already supplied 33.4 mln tonnes of grains and pulses on foreign markets (excluding the shipments to the EAEU countries), down 11% compared with the indicators for the same period of 2018/19 MY. In particular, the exports of wheat totaled 27.5 mln tonnes (down 12%), barley — 2.9 mln tonnes (down 22%), and corn — 2.8 mln tonnes (up 1.4 times).
According to preliminary estimations, in April 2020 the exports of Russian grains will slightly decrease compared with March — to nearly 3-3.1 mln tonnes. However, the figures are still significantly higher compared with the shipments in April 2019 (2 mln tonnes). In particular, wheat will cover the main share of April shipments — 2.4-2.45 mln tonnes, up 1 mln tonnes compared with April 2019 (1.45 mln tonnes).
