For 4 months of 2019/20 MY, Russia imported more than 1 mln tonnes of grains and oilseeds — Centre for Grain Quality Assurance




According to regional divisions of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor), since the beginning of the season-2019/20 (July 1) and as of October 29, Russia already imported 1.1 mln tonnes of grains and oilseeds, as well as its by-products, which almost met the figures in the same period last season (1 mln tonnes), reported the Federal State-Funded Institution "Federal Centre of Quality and Safety Assurance for Grain and Grain products" on November 8.

At the same time, in the reporting period the imports of grains and pulses to the country reduced to 114 thsd tonnes, against 224 thsd tonnes in the same period last year.

In the current season, the supplies of 10 major agricultural crops formed the leading share of the reporting import volumes (93%), and as of the reporting date the figures reached 988 thsd tonnes. Soybeans became the most high-demand crop on the Russian market, which purchases totaled 611 thsd tonnes (57% of the general imports). Paraguay (49%) and Brazil (45%) became the main suppliers of the oilseed. Rice flour took the second position in the rating — 92 thsd tonnes. Wheat took the third position — 88 thsd tonnes, while Kazakhstan was the major country-supplier.

In the reporting period, the number of countries-exporters of grains and oilseeds to Russia lowered to 60, as opposed to 66 in the same period of 2018/19 MY.
