In 2020, Kazakhstan will plant barley throughout more than 2.8 mln ha that will be the second highest level on record and down only 6% from the last season record (3 mln ha), declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The analysis of APK-Inform pointed out that the sown area of barley almost doubled (or up 1.4 mln ha) over the last 10 years. The highest area gain (total 1 mln ha) was observed in 2018 and 2019. The state program of beef farming development as well as the policy of agricultural production diversification favoring technical and feed crops cultivation broadly caused the significant growth of planted area under barley.
“Taking to account the forecasted sown area of barley in Kazakhstan in 2020, APK-Inform see the crop production at the record 4.1 mln tonnes, up 0.3 mln tonnes from the year ago. The average barley yield could reach 1.48 t/ha, up 14% from 2019”, - the analysts explained.
