As of May 14, Russian farmers planted spring agricultural crops throughout the general areas of 29.2 mln ha, or 56.3% of the forecast (on the same date in 2019 — 27.6 mln ha), declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

In particular, farmers planted spring grains throughout 17.2 mln ha, or 59.1% of the forecasted areas (in 2019 — 15.7 mln ha), including spring wheat — 5.9 mln ha, or 48.6% of the forecast, spring barley — 5.7 mln ha, or 72.8%, corn for grain — 2.3 mln ha, or 84.3%, and rice — 140.6 thsd ha, or 71.2%.

At the same time, Russian farmers planted sunflower seed throughout 5.5 mln ha, or 67.4% of the forecasted areas, spring rapeseed — 664.6 thsd ha, or 51.4%, and soybeans — 1 mln ha, or 31.9%.

As of the reporting date, Russia planted sugar beet throughout 898.3 thsd ha, or 95.1% of the plan.

In addition, farmers provided additional fertilizing of winter crops throughout 15.2 mln ha, or 83.1% of the planted areas (in 2019 — 14.1 mln ha).
