As of May 12, Russian farmers planted spring agricultural crops throughout the general areas of 23.7 mln ha, or 45.7% of the forecast (on the same date in 2019 — 23.4 mln ha), declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

In particular, farmers planted spring grains throughout 13.6 mln ha, or 46.8% of the forecasted areas (in 2019 — 13.4 mln ha), including spring wheat — 4.1 mln ha, or 33.3% of the forecast, spring barley — 5.2 mln ha, or 66.4%, corn for grain — 2.1 mln ha, or 77%, and rice — 105.6 thsd ha, or 53.6%.

At the same time, Russian farmers planted sunflower seed throughout 4.9 mln ha, or 61% of the forecasted areas, spring rapeseed — 508.1 thsd ha, or 39.3%, and soybeans — 764.5 thsd ha, or 24.1%.

As of the reporting date, Russia planted sugar beet throughout 880 thsd ha, or 93.1% of the plan.

In addition, farmers provided additional fertilizing of winter crops throughout 15.2 mln ha, or 82.8% of the planted areas (in 2019 — 14 mln ha).
