The rains that took place in Ukraine in early May 2020, will have a positive impact on the condition of agricultural crops and improve the situation with the future harvest, after rather dry spring and almost snowless winter, declared the Head of agrometeorology department at the Ukrainian hydrometeorological center under the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Tetyana Adamenko, on May 5.
For most crops, the rains will turn out for the best, because the precipitation will not fall too late. The situation with crops and sprouts will definitely improve in the regions with the sufficient depth of precipitation (central and western oblasts of Ukraine). At the same time, there were no rains in the south: in Odessa, Kherson oblasts, most raions of Mykolaiv and Zaporizhia oblasts, the drought continued dominating, and the situation was quite difficult, the expert said.
Also, she believed that there is a high probability that the droughts of recent years will continue visiting Ukraine for the following decade.
To date, the prototype of future climate is being formed. The weather of the following decade will have a look of the droughts of recent years. Such winters, or even their absence, will happen more often. But it does not mean that it is necessary to plant only warm-season crops, and Ukraine should not turn down growing winter wheat yet, added T.Adamenko.
