As of May 6, Russian farmers planted spring agricultural crops throughout the general areas of 17 mln ha, or 32.8% of the forecast (on the same date in 2019 — 16.6 mln ha), declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

In particular, farmers planted spring grains throughout 10.1 mln ha, or 34.6% of the forecasted areas (in 2019 — 9.9 mln ha), including spring wheat — 2.4 mln ha, or 19.6% of the forecast, spring barley — 4.1 mln ha, or 52.3%, corn for grain — 1.6 mln ha, or 59.5%, and rice — 84.2 thsd ha, or 42.6%.

At the same time, Russian farmers planted sunflower seed throughout 3.2 mln ha, or 39.5% of the forecasted areas, spring rapeseed — 290.2 thsd ha, or 22.4%, and soybeans — 489.2 thsd ha, or 15.7%.

As of the reporting date, Russia planted sugar beet throughout 808.2 thsd ha, or 85.5% of the plan.

In addition, farmers provided additional fertilizing of winter crops throughout 15 mln ha, or 82% of the planted areas (in 2019 — 13.8 mln ha).
