In 2019, Russia faced the upward trend in the production volumes of three major grain crops — wheat, barley, and corn, compared with the previous year level, reported the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), on January 28.

In particular, in 2019 the harvest of Russian wheat was estimated at 74.3 mln tonnes in clean weight after, up 3% compared with the last year results (72.1 mln tonnes). The growth rates of barley production reached 20.4% — from 17 mln tonnes, to 20.5 mln tonnes, as well as corn — 22%, from 11.4 mln tonnes, to 13.9 mln tonnes.

Also, Russia increased the harvest of rice — up 5.8%, from 1.038 mln tonnes to 1.099 mln tonnes, and millet — up more than 2 times, from 217 thsd tonnes to 439 thsd tonnes.

At the same time, the harvest of rye in Russia decreased by 25.4% — from 1.9 mln tonnes to 1.4 mln tonnes, buckwheat — down 15.8%, from 932 thsd tonnes to 784 thsd tonnes, oats — down 6.7%, from 4.7 mln tonnes to 4.4 mln tonnes, and pulses — down 2.9%, from 3.4 mln tonnes to 3.3 mln tonnes.
