For 3 recent seasons, Russia continued increasing the production of oilseed crops, which will reach nearly 24.5 mln tonnes in 2019/20 MY. In particular, sunflower seed covered 60% of the general production of oilseeds, and in the current season the harvest of the oilseed will reach 15.6 mln tonnes, declared the Vegetable Oils and Oilmeals Trading Director at EFKO Group of Companies, Anton Gritsay, during his report within frames of the international conference Middle East Grains&Oils Congress-2020, on March 3.
In terms of the growth of sunflower seed production, Russia started increasing the oilseed processing volumes, and naturally, the production of sunflower oil. Thus, in 2019/20 MY the production volumes of the reporting vegetable oil can reach 5.8 mln tonnes (up 15.3% y-o-y), and its exports — 2.9 mln tonnes (up 26.5%). Despite the growth of the processing capacities in Russia for 20 recent years from nearly 3 mln tonnes to 20.2 mln tonnes, in 2019/20 MY the workload level of the processing capacities total 75% only.
Also, the speaker noted that in the current season China, India and Turkey were the main countries-importers of Russian sunflower oil. In particular, in the period of September-December of 2019 the shipments to China totaled 189 thsd tonnes, India — 159 thsd tonnes, and Turkey — 175 thsd tonnes.
The growth of exports of sunflower oil of Russian origin developed in terms of decreasing of the price spread with Ukrainian sunflower oil, increasing of its qualitative characteristics and logistics capabilities, the expert added.
