In 2019, Pakistan became the largest importer of Russian pulses




In 2019, the deliveries of Russian agricultural products to Pakistan increased by 71% compared with the previous year, and totaled 86 mln USD, reported the Federal State-Funded Institution "AgroExport" under the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.

The upward trend developed, due to growing of the supply of pulses, which increased by 82% per year — to 84 mln USD. As a result, in 2019 Pakistan reached the first position among countries-importers of Russian pulses, and removed Turkey from its previous leadership position. At the same time, it should be noted that in 2016-2019 period the shipments of Russian pulses to Pakistan in physical volumes increased in 4.6 times — to 278 thsd tonnes.

Also, chickpeas became the main crop purchased by Pakistan from Russia, which imports in 2019 almost doubled — to 51 mln USD, peas — up 38% to 28 mln USD, and lentils — up 4 times to 4.5 mln USD. In addition, in 2019 Pakistan started importing sorghum from Russia — 386 tonnes at the sum of 67 thsd USD.
